SHOWAbility (formerly known as ABEL 2) was founded in 2009 by a professional singer and U.S. Cultural Ambassador: America’s Songbird Myrna Clayton (www.MyrnaClayton.com). Myrna became personally involved with this phenomenon when she happened to see a 10 year-old boy with cerebral palsy struggle to get up three steps into a church pulpit to sing. Amazingly when he started singing, his voice was so wonderful, that she forgot she no longer focused on his disability. A few years later she began looking for him hoping he was using his immense talent. Sadly, no one from her vast list of performer friends (singers, musicians, actors, etc.) knew any person with a disability that sang – not one! That made no sense to her, so started ABEL 2, Inc. - now SHOWAbility, Inc. - as a way to give people with disabilities a way to showcase their talents. Over the past 11+ years from its inception, SHOWAbility has impacted the lives of well over 7500 PwDs and stakeholders.

Programming includes the newly created INCLUSIVE CHORUS (featuring talented singers with and without disabilities), Disability Awareness Career Day (featuring career professionals with disabilities interacting with elementary schools of all abilities), SHOWAbility Variety Concept (a variety show featuring diversely talented performers across the disability spectrum), Artist Development, Talent Booking Agency (identifies and books talent for movies, plays and concerts), and Statewide Talent Shows (collaborating with disability-mindful groups around the state of GA such as Disabled Veterans, Day Programs, etc.).

SHOWAbility is not letting COVID-19 stop our momentum. As part of the celebration of the ADA's 30th Anniversary, SHOWAbility is preparing two virtual events for PwD and those that love them in Fall 2020: a kick off concert featuring the INCLUSIVE CHORUS as part of its 4th annual SHOWAbility Variety Concert and a program offering 2 weeks of Virtual Zoom Stress Relieving and Artistic Classes for individuals, families and caregivers in the disability community.
